Eureka 313A Enviro Hard-Surface Floor Steamer Review

Eureka 313A Enviro Hard-Surface Floor Steamer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Know going in If you get the Envirosteamer, know that, though it cleans the best, the first two times you use it the water goes through holes faster than it will in subsequent uses, so it will go through steam faster and your floors will be wetter than normal. Enough people wrote me to know this happened the first one or two times as it did my first time of use, then after that the mop was normal, our floors are great and it lasts waaaah longer. We don't know why. Just know that going in. After the first two initializing uses it steams perfect! Also obviously the steam lasts longest if you don't hold the mop above the floor to walk to another area since the steam pours out as it will with any steam mop if you do.
(update: This review was updated on 11-2-09 after I got to compare the Bissell as well as add notes about the Ladybugg steamer at the bottom, and then on 11-30 when I got to compare the SteamFast SF-140 and on 12-7 to compare the Steam Boy)
I live in a neighborhood where EVERY home is "green built certified" this means that, to have that certification, the builder built no homes with carpet. All the main floors are polished concrete and the upper floors wood. The bathrooms all have tile and/or slate in every home.
Because of this, as you could imagine, steam mops are quite the neccessity...not only because they get the hard surfaces better than anything else, but because they are also "green" and clean chemical free. I'll be honest, for us...that's a bonus but we weren't cleaning chemical free before. We like chemical free for our pet's paws but I'll confess I was mopping with chemicals before I got my steamer and just kept the pets out of the room while doing it because, up until then, I couldn't get it clean any other way.
Okay, so that said...we decided to have a steamer show down to compare 7 different steamers because my friends and I knew as long as we are in these homes we are gonna have to have a steamer to get all these hard floors clean...we may as well figure out which one to buy next go round. Because my own home is graced with 2 cats, 3 dogs, and two gregarious cooks, my kitchen floor (which had not ever been cleaned by a steamer since my steamer had just arrived) was the testing spot.
Mind you, I vaccuum twice per week and do a mega mop twice a week. I THOUGHT I had pretty clean floors in spite of my pet capacity.
I thought wrong. These picked up dirt so well it's scary
So here's the results:
1. steam mops are the mac daddys of clean floors. What these things picked up was tremendous and no comparison to my vigorous prior constant major mopping.
2. So now I'll break down the elements of each mop we used and then go into more detail about each at the end.
We tried out:
"S": The shark by Europro
"E" The Envirosteamer by Eureka
"H" the haan steamer
"M" the Monster
"B" The Bissell Green Tea
"SF" The SteamFast SF-140 by SteamFast
"SB" The SteamBoy T1
CORD LENGTH: so you don't have to stop and unplug and replug in somewhere else:
Shark ( will be referred to as S):20 feet
Envirosteamer (will be referred to as E): 25 feet *Note* The Envirosteamer has a clip at the top of the handle to keep the cord out of the way. When it's plugged in and you need more cord length, a light tug undoes this cord on the clip so that you have the full 25' of cord. Otherwise it's only around 20 feet. It's made to do this.
Haan: (will be referred to as H)19'8"
Monster (will be referred to as M): 25 feet
Bissell (will be referred to as B) 17 feet
SteamFast (will be referred to as SF): 18.7 ft.
SteamBoy (will be referred to as SB): 16 ft.
STEAM TEMPERATURE: this is a primary element. The hotter the steam, the more dirt picked up and hot steam will also kill parasites, mold and mildew and loosen more dirt:
S 110 degrees. lame
E 220 degrees. very hot
H 212 degrees. very hot
M 266 degrees. hottest...although the envirosteamer and haan seemed plenty hot enough. The shark didn't clean nearly as well and this was one reason. 110 degrees just isn't going to melt off stuck on grime.
B 125 degrees. Note that, because of this low steam temperature the manual said that if I wanted to sanitize the floor or pick up caked on spills, I had to hold the steamer on the spot for 15 seconds but no more than 20 because that could damage some floors. Now I don't know about you, but if I can sanitize with one swipe of the other steamers because of their sanitizing temps my floor will be done WAY faster but I don't have a timer to worry about the extra 5 secons where my wood floors could get damaged. My sink water is hotter than this so it would take less time to use a regular mop if I have to hold the steamer on every spot of my floor for 15 seconds to santize. Just sayin
SF: 137 degrees. Not hot enough to clean well nor sanitize.
SB: 120 degrees. Not hot enough to clean well nor sanitize
BUILD:
We found how it was made corresponded with issues with the steamer. The Shark, for example, was quite flimsy and they actually sell replacement handle kits because so many people have issues with the handle breaking! We know this because my neighbor's shark broke and the store had a replacement handle kit on the shelf because he said "it happens often". That's an extra cost.
Envirosteamer: Was 5.4 lbs which made it lightweight but strong enough that you didn't have to press down to clean. Very well made and strong parts
Haan: not made as well as the envirosteamer but it's more expensive so this was a surprise. A bit flimsy and you need to press down on it more to clean at 3.15 lbs.
Monster: hefty and well made at 9 lbs but a bit too heavy unless you want a good workout. (Note: They have changed the Monster handles on the mops now and they are all plastic and people are having breakage issues)
Bissell: It's 8.4 pounds but that includes a water filter that you have to get for this one (see notes below)
SteamFast: very flimsy plastic all over, but it's also more affordable than the other mops so it's a bit of a trade off. 7 lbs.
SteamBoy: They didn't even ship this preassembled like the other mops. We had to assemble it! Pretty flimsy plastic. 9 lbs but that includes the water filter you have to get with this one (see notes below)
WATER CAPACITY: Very important because having to stop and add more water just adds on to the time you have to spend cleaning, especially if you are cleaning a hallway or livingroom or some other area that has no sink:
S: only holds up to 10 oz of water. Lasted for 10 miinutes of cleaning
E: holds up to 20 oz. of water. Lasted for over 20 minutes of cleaning (we stopped at 20 and it was still going)
H: holds up to 11.83 oz of water. Lasted for 13 minutes of cleaning
M: holds up to 17 oz. of water. Lasted for 15 minutes of cleaning
B: holds up to 13 oz of water, lasted for 12.5 minutes of cleaning AND you have to undo and remove the tank from the machine every time you fill it up then hook it back on and the steam tank is on the handle rather than the base so the steam doesn't flow directly out after heating up which may explain why it's not as hot once it leaves the machine. The way this mop is made the water flows past heating elements which can, according to Bissell, develop calcium deposits on it so this is the only mop where, because of this, you also have to use a water filter with it and replace the water filter when there is build up which means and extra 12 bucks every few months. The better mops are made to heat the water in a metal tank so this is not an issue and you pour the water directly into the tank.
SF: Holds the least amount of water and I had to stop and fill up and get the water reheated often in trying to clean the floor. Only holds 8 oz of water and if you use 8 oz it gets your floor too wet so we wound up filling it with just up to 7.5 oz of water for best results and it only lasted 7 minutes when we did that before we had to refill again.
SB: up to 24 oz BUT it only lasted for 12 minutes of cleaning. I think because of the build. This one also is made so that the water has to flow past heating elements down the handle, rather than flowing directly from a hot tank to the floor at the base. Because of this it can develop calcium deposits inside the mop so you have to also buy a water filter for this mop and replace it every few months when there is build up which means extra cost and, quite possibly, more repairs. Because this does not flow directly out of a hot tank it cools on the way down and possibly with this one evaporates somehow because we tried it twice and the steam simply didn't last as long as it should.
STEAM HOLES: We found a difference although you'd think they'd all be the same. The shark only had one hole that the steam came out of so it wasn't cleaning things on the edges, just in one spot. All the others had steam coming from bottom and sides. Steamboy also didn't have holes near the edge
SIZE: The taller it is the less stooping, the wider the mop head, the more it covers
S: 40"Hx12"Wx7"D
E: 50"Hx13.25"Wx6.75"D (the fact that this depth was smaller made it reach under applicances better...it fit better under things)
H: 50.5x11.5x7.5
M: 48x12.7.5
B: 45.25H (this was uncomfortably short) x11 x8.4 (even though this didn't fit under cabinets because of the depth it did swivel the best)
SF:49x11.8x7
SB: 28.2x6.9x7.9
Conclusion of comparison: First it must be pointed out that, in order to use the shark and the Bissell and the SteamBoy, you had to keep pumping the water...Read more›

The mop is a little hard to push at first until the pad gets wet. The handle on top of the tank helps with that. Once I got used to using it I think It does a great job. I am glad I got 6 pads with it. It is amazing how filthy they get--so that must mean it is cleaning!!

Bionaire Steam Mop w/ Interchangable Base Review

Bionaire Steam Mop w/ Interchangable Base
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love this mop!!! I was looking at the Shark Steam Mop but after reading the reviews about customer service and the all-too-common 6-month life span I was easily persuaded to look at my other options. The Bionaire has a steady stream of steam when you turn it on and all you have to do is push. Other mops required pumping, ouch! This one is also able to be used as a hand-held steamer. Hallelujah! And comes with a carpet glider and triangle head, too! I haven't used it beyond it's main base yet though. I will definitely update when I do.
All-in-all it was love at first mop! I can't wait to go home and clean tonight. The floors still look great one week after their first steam. We have hardwood floors and marble in the bathroom. The hardwood floors haven't looked so good in years!!! The marble in the bathroom is so clean :) Not only can you see the cleanliness of the floors but you can feel it...even after a week! I highly recommend a steam mop and although this one is still new for me, I am very happy with my purchase.

researched for weeks online and in stores for a steam mop, as most of my house is wood or tile. I could not be happier with my purchase. Here are the reasons why i finally chose the Euroflex Monster:
1) It was actually designed to be used on hardwood floors - this was important to me b/c I didn't want to ruin the floors in our house
2) It has 2 different steam levels, which makes it safer and more effective at cleaning tile and hardwood. i could not find any other steam mop w/ 2 different steam levels.
3) it has a good sized water chamber. i can mop the whole house on one filling if i don't press the trigger too much to get extra steam to come out the front.
4) steam jets on the bottom AND front. i don't remember seeing this in any other brand.
5) it heats up hotter than most steam mops - to 240 degrees F. Other steam mops don't get as hot so to actually sanitize you are supposed to hold the mop in one spot for 15 seconds, which would make mopping a house an all day event.
6) it also has an attachment for steam cleaning carpets - i have not tried this yet, but liked the feature.
7) the bonus pads where a great bonus.
It has been great at cleaning well and quickly. It really does wipe away grime... even grime that's been there for a while. The pads are machine washable and come out clean every time. Be sure to use distilled water so that you don't get any build up in the chamber (that goes for all steam mops). My only complaint is that if you do have to refill the water chamber mid-cleaning session, you have to wait to 5 mins unscrew the cap (b/c of steam escaping when you unscrew the cap)and then another 5 mins for the mop to heat up after you put more water in the chamber

Hoover Enhanced Clean Disinfecting Steam Mop - WH20200 Review

Hoover Enhanced Clean Disinfecting Steam Mop - WH20200
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I couldn't wait to get this steam mop and tore open the box as soon as it arrived, eager to try it out. I completely read the instructions first and then put the device together -- quite simple. Items inside the box include the actual steam mop, a graduated measuring cup, 2 smooth multisurface microfiber pads, one fenestrated microfiber pad for hard floors, a hard water filter that is already pre-installed in the device (but that will probably someday need to be replaced), a cooling base, a plastic piece that is used on carpet, and a small container of the Hoover multipurpose disinfectant solution.
I carefully swept all the surfaces I intended to clean -- the kitchen and hall linoleum and the upstairs bathroom floor which is also linoleum. My floors are not a real flat surface so I wanted to see how much better this device would perform than does my sponge mop and Clorox Clean up. First you put about 500 mL of tap water (approximately a pint) into the water tank on the front of the machine, then you are to add the disinfectant to the solution tank in the back. The instructions say that it holds 300 mL but the bottle that is included in the box only contains 227 mL so it will have to do until you buy more. (Note: the solution isn't cheap: Hoover Multi-Purpose Disinfectant Solution - 32oz - WH00020 is $16.59 on amazon.com. The instruction book also says that you can use Hoover Multipurpose Cleaner but that was not included in the product box and I could not find the product on this website.
Now I attached the self-adhering fenestrated microfiber pad (the one that has 3 triangular holes in it), turned on the device and waited about 30 seconds for the green light to indicate it was ready for steaming. You can just use steam alone, but the disinfecting solution states that the product provides 99.99% sanitization, it kills harmful bacteria and prevents mold or mildew so I doubt I'd ever just eliminate that when using this mop. Place your foot on the left side of the device to loosen and tilt the handle and then to produce steam and disinfectant solution you squeeze the "trigger" located on the curved handle. When disinfecting, the clean control dial should be set to HIGH. The device glided smoothly over my floors, the steam and disinfectant did a good job of removing dirt and any other surface materials from my floors. My kitchen floor is white so I was happy to see the mop easily taking care of the messy spots. Drying time seemed quite short and there were none of the small pools of water that I sometimes get when using a regular mop. The only down side I noticed was that the glossy finish that I had previously applied was completely removed and left a dull finish behind. It would be great if this device had a "waxing" or shining feature attached as well!
All told, the Hoover Enhanced Clean Disinfecting Steam Mop did a nice job on all my floors. The power cord is long, allowing for lots of movement without having to unplug and move, but I found it irritating to work around and a bit annoying but that was a minor nuisance. The cleaning seemed to be effective -- the wedge shape of the head of the mop allows you to get into corners and under shelves but the base prevents you from getting underneath appliances or anything with short clearance. I found it fun to use and though I can't say I'm excited to mop my floors again, I think it will be less of a hassle as there's no need to dump dirty water, or rinse and clean the mop when you're done. Just tear off the microfiber pad and toss into the washing machine with hot water (no fabric softener) and air dry. I left both water and disinfectant in their tanks to use next time because I could not find in the booklet that the water should be discarded -- though not a big deal to do it. I may even boil and cool the water next time to prevent my filter from going bad.
I liked it and can recommend you try it if you're looking for something besides a mop and a bucket of hot water to clean your floors. It works on all flooring and the book says you can even use it to freshen carpets (a glide is included in the box) but I did not use it for carpet!

I got this as a birthday gift from my parents after seeing the problems my puppies were causing to my floor and furniture. It cleans up their accidents quickly and leaves no residue or after smell. I like it because I feel safer using a green product around areas where my dogs are. Euroflex Monster Floor Steam Cleaner Ez2 W/cleanblast Review

Euroflex Monster Floor Steam Cleaner Ez2 W/cleanblast
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I actually bought this at a Sear's outlet store for the same price listed here and I'm very happy with the results. I have hardwood floors, two dogs, and I live in the Pacific Northwest which means lots of mud and dirty paw prints during the rainy season (7 months out of 12). I was using a hand held mop with a reusable cloth pad and spraying cleaner by hand which was time consuming and hard on the wrist. I had been interested in getting a steam mop ever since I saw the infomercials for the Shark Steam mop but I didn't want to pay $150 for one. I did some research here on Amazon and found some that I liked but they were still out of my price range. When my husband noticed one at the Sears Outlet for $39.99 I decided to get it. I like the fact that it comes with 3 microfiber pads, 2 for hardwood/linoleum/tile floors and 1 for the carpet attachment. It heats up very quickly and really gets all of the dirt out of my floors, all without having to use chemicals. I do have some of the cleaning fluid included in the box and have not used it yet, it doesn't need to be added except for really sticky messes I think. I clean the pads in the sink with hot water and soap and just let them dry afterwards and that seems to work very well. All in all I would recommend this product for its price and its performance, its a great investment. One thing that I did have a problem with was using the feature for the front steam jets. Using the troubleshooting instructions in the manual, I found out that I had inserted the handle wrong and the electrical connection was not touching properly to make the jets work.

Kalorik Steam Mop Review

Kalorik Steam Mop
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this steam cleaner about a month ago. Initial impression was that it did a fair job, less hassle than a mop and bucket. On the 4th use it started to trip the ground fault interrupters in the electrical outlets. On the 5th use the handle fell apart sending hot steam over my hands and exposing electrical wires.
Review of the warranty states to send the product back in the original packaging with the receipt and it may be replaced if they find it defective. What a joke. I would not want another dangerous device. I just want my money back.
DON'T BUY THIS DEVICE.

Hoover SteamVac Bare Floor Cleaning Attachment (Old # 48417003) Review

Hoover SteamVac Bare Floor Cleaning Attachment (Old # 48417003)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I ordered this part because I already had the Hoover SteamVac for our carpets and wanted to see how it did on the tile flooring in the kitchen. It took a couple minutes to get snapped on to the vacuum correctly, but is otherwise easy to use and clean afterwards. From what I could tell, it cleaned the floor probably as well as a regular mop, but it took about three times as long (once over with the solution, then a couple more times to suck up all the water, not to mention the maneuverability is a pain!) The SteamVac itself is great, but I wouldn't recommend the bare floor attachment, unless you have a lot of extra time to kill.

Shark Micro-Fiber Steam Mop Pads, 2 Pack, XT3101 Review

Shark Micro-Fiber Steam Mop Pads, 2 Pack, XT3101

Of course, floor must be swept or vacuumed first, then this steam mop (Euro Pro Shark Steam Mop) really cleans up! (Sanitizes) It worked great for us on our vast expanse of tile flooring. Distilled water is recommended and is a good idea, so hard water, water softeners, etc, don't ruin the machine and its efficiency. Only holds a cup or so of water, but that cup did our large guest bath, entry area, and long hall. The pumping action of the handle as you work keeps the steam coming. Unbelievably easy to use, and it even removed wax residues from our tile! (We tried to wax glazed tile.) Only comes with 2 pads, so order more! (Pads wash up just fine in the washer/dryer, so use them even without steam, if needed!)

Haan SI-35G Floor Sanitizer, Green Review

Haan SI-35G Floor Sanitizer, Green
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was really quite hesitant to order this item, because I just don't want to bring another useless piece of clutter into the house! However, my hardwood floors extend into the kitchen (not what I would have done!), and they are a pain in the back side to maintain. Tiny drips that are not cleaned up immediately can harden into the floor so that their removal is almost impossible! Scrubbing them with a "no scratch" scrubber has left visible scrub marks! So, a few weeks ago, I started looking into the Shark floor steamer. I never heard of the Haan, but came across it on Amazon searching for floor steamers. I decided that I really did not need to buy a large model--I wanted something that I could easily store in a handy location, and I figured I would be using it most frequently on the kitchen floor. It arrived tonight, and I had it assembled in a snap. Literally! No tools needed! I quickly dust-mopped the kitchen floor, and was steam-cleaning the floor within a few minutes after carrying the box inside the house!
I was most impressed about how some of the persistent small drip spots were removed without leaving scratches! The floor dried very quickly. I was MORE than satisfied with the ease of use and the appearance of the floor. I was very happy with the results, and best of all, I was happy I did not have an immediate case of buyer's remorse! What was most amazing, though, is how the floor felt to my bare feet! It felt PERFECTLY clean! I don't know if it's because it cleans so well, or because there is no residue from floor products, but there is definitely a noticeable difference.
Now, I have to dust mop the rest of my floors so I can steam them, too!

Eureka 350A Enviro-Steamer Hotshot Hand-held Steamer Review

Eureka 350A Enviro-Steamer Hotshot Hand-held Steamer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let's face facts, folks. I'm a 29 year old bachelor. I hate cleaning. I do it only when it becomes absolutely necessary, which usually happens when I'm waist deep in clutter and mess. Wherever the cleaning bug gene is that runs in most families, it made absolutely certain to skip me.
I had to clean my house before selling it recently, and I had to do the unthinkable. Yup, I had to actually exert myself in that one activity I hate more than anything else. And that'd be cleaning. Downcast and sullen, I labored through the task at hand with as much gusto as I could gather, but it wasn't until my folks, who were helping me in my endeavours, pulled out this wondrous device that the experience actually became good.
Pour water in it, plug it in and let it heat up. After some minutes pass, press the trigger and the hand steamer exerts a jet of high-powered steam that will remove any stain. Yes, any stain. I was so impressed with the demos my Mom was showing me that I had to try myself on the grunge on the kitchen floor. After a few sweeps I had to try on something else. So the front of my refrigerator became my next victim. After that I was looking around for something else...anything else. And as I began this on the dryer in the laundry room I realized that I was actually *enjoying* the experience.
This thing gets into cracks and crevices that noone could ever dream of getting to before, cleans them, and as a bonus sterilizes them completely. My bathroom is in cleaner, better shape now then it was when I first got the house!
There's several different attachments that you can put on the nozzle to make the steam come out at different angles, and others that can allow you to steam clean mirrors or flat surfaces. It is beyond easy to operate and is perversely enjoyable, even for a self proclaimed couch-potato such as myself. I recommend this for anyone wanting to get stains or dirt off of surfaces that nothing short of molecular acid and a brillo pad will remove. But don't be surprised if your husband/fiance'/boyfriend eventually steals it from you to do the task themselves. You might even see them smile as they work!
