Hoover Platinum Collection Pet Plus Carpet-and-Upholstery Detergent, 50 Ounces, AH30035 Review

I have tried, on a number of different occasions, a few of the Hoover carpet detergents: The lesser expensive Hoover Deep Cleansing detergent (a very nice all-purpose detergent), the Hoover Premium Pet Formula (great scent), and the (more expensive) Hoover Platinum Pet Plus. They are ALL great carpet cleaning detergents... but I would have to confess that I didn't find a huge cleaning difference between the Deep Cleansing and the Premium Pet Formula (I would favor the Pet Formula over the Deep Cleansing -- the Pet Formula has a lovely powdery scent and little bit more cleaning power that's worth an extra couple of bucks, I think).
All of that said, the Platinum Pet Plus detergent... whoa, that was a BIG cut above the rest. Twice the price, but twice the performance. It's a killer price-wise for me -- I can use an entire bottle of the stuff on just one good-sized room (we have a lot of dogs free-roaming our house plus we live in a rural mountain/country environment). But, if you compare it with the expense of professional carpet cleaning, or the cost to replace a room of carpet, a few extra bucks on the Platinum Pet Plus detergent is a great alternative when you have a seriously soiled carpet. In the end, I think I'll spring for the Platinum Pet Plus when the carpets are really THAT bad (more often than I'd like to confess to) or for a semi-annual cleaning, and then use the Premium Pet Formula for in-between light maintenance. If money were no object, I'd buy the Platinum Pet Plus every time. It's that good.

Years of wear and tear caused by kids, pets, tracked-in dirt, spills, and other buildup can cause carpets to look prematurely tired and worn. Lengthen the lifespan of plush flooring, rugs, and other upholstery by keeping it clean, fresh, and in like-new condition with this efficient detergent. Formulated with a concentrated enzyme that penetrates deeply to eliminate stains and odors, the professional-strength carpet cleaner specifically targets family and pet messes, including blood, vomit, grass stains, and soils caused by bed wetting and pet accidents. Furthermore, the formula works with all deep-cleaning machines to quickly and aggressively remove stains, which means less time spent scrubbing soiled flooring and more time enjoying a clean home. Approved by the Carpet & Rug Institute (CRI), the 50-ounce container of detergent measures approximately 3 by 6-1/2 by 11 inches.

Nature's Miracle Advanced Stain and Odor Formula 128oz (Gallon) Review

Nature's Miracle Advanced Stain and Odor Formula 128oz (Gallon)

I recently moved into a house that had quite a bit of cat urine soaked into the flooring. I needed something to remove the odor. I've used the normal natures miracle for years and it works well, but the odor issue in this rental house is out of control. Old old old cat urine areas that had been repeatedly marked. Nature's miracle works well, and it works best if allowed to remain wet for a long time (at least a day or two, and preferably up to a week or two). It still works if you leave it on for a shorter time, but may not work quite as well.
As best I can tell, the advanced formula is basically the same thing as the normal formula, but with the addition of a perfume and odor counteractives that begin working the moment you apply (rather than having to wait two weeks for odor removal). I will say this, contrary to what another reviewer has said, the perfume they add in the advanced formula BLOCKS the urine odor completely, instantly, at least it did for me. There are a class of pro-grade cleaning products called "odor modifiers" which bind to the odor molecules and render them unable to be picked up by your nose. You DO smell the perfume, but you don't smell the urine. I believe the Natures Miracle Advanced formula contains the same kinds of odor modifiers that some of the pro-grade products use. The perfume is a sort of chemical cherry smell. The perfume isn't something I'd want to smell all the time, however, when faced with whiffing strong cat urine vs the perfume, I'd definitely choose the perfume. The odor fades as the product dries and within a week or two, its gone and all of the urine odor should be eliminated. If the odor wasn't eliminated, then the product either didn't reach all contaminated areas, or didn't stay wet long enough.
For most accidents you catch right away, before it has a chance to really dry out and start stinking, I would use the normal Natures Miracle product. But for dried urine spots you start smelling and don't find for days or weeks, or for fecal accidents that really stink immediately, and you'd rather have the offensive odor gone instantly while you smell a perfume for a little while, I suggest the advanced forumula.

This stuff is awesome! It does a particularly good job of bleaching out stains; you can watch a stain disappear within seconds of application. This is the only cleaner I've found that can handle cat diarrhea on the carpet (bad kitty!). It handles the odor pretty well too, though sometimes a second application helps.

Great for pre-treating before deep cleaning, this effective formula quickly removes tough stains and odors caused by pets. The pre-cleaner's odor-fighting enzymes penetrate fibers and break down odors, while its FiberCoat helps protect carpet fibers with a stain-fighting coating. Safe for pets and carpets, the pet-stain and odor remover comes in a 32-ounce trigger-spray bottle for convenient dispensing. The bottle measures approximately 4-4/5 by 3 by 11-1/5 inches.

Bissell 2X Pet Stain and Odor Advanced Formula, 24 Ounces, 99K5 Review

I think the problem here is that our dog's urine from accidents has soaked through to the padding in the carpet. Despite using our Bissel "heated" carpet deep cleaner/steamer, we can still get a strong urine odor. Lesson is: don't expect this to solve all of your issues. It's okay for "light" to medium cleaning, but anything that was heavily saturated will need alternative cleaning methods (i.e. ripping up the carpet and replacing segments of padding).
