(More customer reviews)Purchased for the home. Vacuum has great suction but cleaning the unit is messy. The foam filter needs to be washed monthly depending on how much you use the unit. As with any other vacuum i have used the carpet roller brush gets clogged with hairs and needs frequent cleaning and disentanglement. Floors are cleaned better with the use of the floor attachment (a pain when you are transitioning from carpet to floor). Cord is not retractable and does get in the way at times. I have no experience with a dyson vacuum but purchased this one due to the price. Unit is relatively light and construction is okay.

(More customer reviews)I own one of the largest Residential Cleaning Services in my State. I use this machine exclusively for my hard floor areas. I found that the suction is terrific and is equal to machines that cost hundreds more. It is simple to operate. It has no "powerhead", so it is pretty much only a hard surface vacuum. However, I found a hand held turbo attachment that works wonderful with it becaause of the great suction this machine has. It makes the turbo scream with power enough to pick up the worst pet hair on furniture and hard to get areas of carpeting between furniture and walls. I have 20 of these machines, which have lasted a long time, considering that we put 20 times more usage on them than a normal household would.

Shark Multi-Vac, NH15 Review

I really wanted to like the Shark Multi-Vac, but, God help me, I'm about to throw it out the window! At first I thought having a vacuum with multiple uses (hand vac, upright vac, and canister vac) would be great, but changing from one configuration to another takes a degree in rocket science and a lot of energy. I'm generally a very tech-y girl, but I really don't want to be deconstructing and reconstructing a robot when all I want to do is vacuum the kitchen floor!!
Deep breath.
For ease of reading, I'll list the pros and cons (of which there are many):
Pros:
* Low Price: With one of those 20% coupons Bed, Bath and Beyond sends in the mail what seems like every day, I was able to buy the Shark Multi-Vac for about $80 at the BB&B on Queens Blvd.
* Small Size: Petite for a small home/apartment
* Powerful Suction: The suction was so strong it actually got hard to push on some of my carpets. (Wait, does that make the suction a con in this instance?)
* Back Saver Attachment: This attachment, used in canister mode, allows you to get under furniture without moving heavy pieces or straining your back. However, I couldn't even figure out how to convert the vacuum to canister mode and I strained my back with frustration anyway!
* Purple Vacuum: Need I say more?
Cons:
* Crazy Swivel Steering: I would have thought swivel steering would be a pro, but it is actually really hard to steer the vacuum where you want it. I had a hard time pushing the vacuum straight ahead and actually needed to lift it and replace it down on the floor a couple of times.
* Complicated Design: As I said above, it is difficult to transition from one vacuum format to another and putting the vacuum together out of the box was like building a spaceship (I exaggerate a little, of course). You also need to remove the entire hand vacuum from the stick to empty the dust cup, which is supremely annoying.
* Inconvenient Power Switch Location: Unless you have some serious monkey toes, you'll need to bend down to the bottom of the vac to reach the power switch, which out of multi-use necessity must be on the hand vac canister. This pregnant lady did not appreciate that.
* No Beater Brush: The upright vac does not have a beater brush, which means the vac won't kick up things and I had trouble picking up even a feather from our extremely low-pile carpeting. (I did have more success with the upright vac in our tiled kitchen.)
* Heavy: Despite being advertised as "light-weight," this Shark is actually a bit of a chore to push around. Perhaps this is an unfortunate side effect, however, of the difficult steering and super suction.
* Short Hose: Forget about cleaning your curtains when the vac is in upright mode. The most you're stretching this hose is two feet and it doesn't come with a long-reaching nozzle attachment.
The bottom line is that I must return this vacuum before it drives me crazy. I was blinded by how cool and gadgety the Shark Multi-Vac Looks, but I've learned a lesson that simple and dependable is generally the way to go with household appliances.

Shark Navigator Bagless Vacuum (Purple) Review

(More customer reviews)I was impressed with other Shark products enough to buy this vacuum to replace an Oreck. First of all this vacuum weighs more than the Oreck and has a smaller head and is noisier, but to its credit, costs less. As another reviewer said, the true test of this vacuum is whether it will last more than 13 months. Well, it is just shy of 7 1/2 months and this vacuum just died. It was preceded by a very loud sound coming from the motor but was not the result of running over or trying to pick up any large objects. It happened with normal use. When calling the customer service, it was obvious I was talking to Asia. The person belabored the fact that I needed to be sure that the electricity was working in my house. He then informed me that I'd need to ship it insured, all at my expense to N.C., and then spend $16.99 to have it fixed despite its alleged 5 year warranty. Sorry, but this product just doesn't last with normal use and their warranty and customer service leave much to be desired. There will be no more Shark products in my household and my friends and family and Amazon will learn of the fact that I cannot recommend it or other Shark products.

Infinity Upright Vac - NV30 Review

(More customer reviews)I bought the Infiniti at Costco, having heard nothing about it before I bought it. When I got it home, I read several reviews, and was so frightened I probably would have brought it back immediately if Costco wasn't already closed. But I tried it anyway.
First, I read the manual. Most of the problems others have mentioned are described in the manual, along with their cures. The handle must click into place or it will come out, for instance. To lock the unit in the upright position, push it all the way forward until you hear a click. To keep the unit from tipping over when you use the hose attachments, clamp the hose into the lower bracket, as the manual says. I have done all of these, and have not had the problems others mention. When all else fails, read the instructions.
When I first started the vacuum, I ran over a dirty spot in the carpet, and the dust and crumbs stayed where they were. I thought "Curses, it does lack power, as others have said!" (Yes, I talk like a pirate at times--blame Jery Bruckheimer!). I turned the unit off and, as the manual had said, I checked the height adjuster for the carpet. I had misunderstood the machine's symbols, and set it on highest instead of lowest. I reversed this setting. Vrooom, up came the crumbs. The thing picked up everything--crumbs, cat hair, a crusty spot on the carpet that I thought I was going to have to treat--my old vacuum had not worked on it. I had to empty the dust cup twice before I finished my living/dining room, because the vacuum was picking up cat hair my old vacuum had missed. This unit does NOT lack power.
Now, the bad stuff. The dust cup fills quickly, and is a bit awkward to clean. It empties from the bottom with the click of a lever, but in real life, I had to take the cup apart and remove the mesh filter to get all the dust out. That might be because of the cat hair in my apartment.
In addition to the dust cup, there is the "Upper Cyclonic Chamber," which has to be cleaned after every few uses, at least. It attaches to the top of the dust cup, and has twenty-four little chambers--this is supposed to eliminate the power drop other vacuums get when they begin to fill. To clean, you twist it off the top of the dust cup, release the little door on the chamber and shake out the dirt. This takes two hands, because the chamber is awkwardly shaped. Then you have to fill the chamber with water through a little drain hole and shake it clean. Not too difficult, but not as smooth as it sounds. Apparently, if this is not done after every couple of vacuums the machine could begin to lose effectiveness. Once rinsed, the unit has to dry overnight before it is ready to use again, the instructions say. So, don't wash until you are done. I made this mistake--I washed it before I vacuumed my couch, and had to wait until the next day.
There are also two filters to clean, in the bottom of the unit, but these only need occasional cleaning. The HEPA filter is washable and reusable.
Last, the construction. It seems somewhat sturdy, but not really solid. The handle is also the hose wand, and slides down into a shaft. There is some play in the handle, which may wear the little ball-clasps out over time, so mine might develop the handle issue others have mentioned.
Anyway, that covers it. Overall, I like the vacuum, and hope it holds up. It gets my carpet noticably cleaner than my old vacuum, and the room smells better, too. The headlight is useful. The unit is quieter than average, and only frightened one of my cats. Read the manual to avoid some of the problems others have mentioned.

(More customer reviews)i wasn't too excited about spending $300 on a vacuum, but i had to see if the hype was valid. so i bought this vacuum with every intention of returning it when i proved it wasn't any diffrent from my old dirt devil. well, that did not happen. after getting home and assembling this product (very easy) i brought out my old vacuum (had it about 2 yrs)emptied the dirt cup, took the filter off and banged as much dust out of it as i could (creating quite a mess in the process)and vacuumed my house as i normally would. then i broke out the healthy home. still skeptical, i started to re vacuum my house. i have 2 dogs, and i don't think i've ever gotten all the hair up ever. with this vacuum i had to empty the dirt cup twice while vacuuming (which is also unbelievably easy, and no mess at all). i was disgusted at how much dirt was left in my carpet after using my old vacuum. after i finished with the bissell, i got down on the floor to see how much dog hair was still embedded in the carpet. i couldn't find any. so i did the only logical thing i could think of... i threw the dirt devil away and put the bissell in the closet. did i mention how quiet this machine is? it's quiet. i love this vacuum.

I have 1 child, 2 cats ,a dog and a bird and it literally was a breeze on all of their mess, such as candy wrappers, hair, cat litter and seeds. We have a large townhouse and I could do the first-floor and steps without having to replug somewhere else. The dirt canister is larger than I thought it would be and the suction was great! It's also very easy to clean. It is lightweight and easy to handle and the micro-fresh filter only needs to be replaced 2 times a year ... (Now that makes me breathe easy). The only thing I can come up with that I would change on this vac is that it does not have a retractable cord.

(More customer reviews)I grew up with an old Rainbow (well over twenty years ago) and noticed the huge advantages of having a water filtration vacuum. it's great for reducing the dust in your house, and with frequent usage, can seemingly eliminate the presence of dust all together. You can accomplish that using this vacuum. BUT... ONE: the suction is not what it claims to be. the twenty year old rainbow I had significantly stronger suction. So beware if you have lots of carpets. TWO: the water reservoir is a good size, but you use VERY LITTLE water. You have to change it frequently while using (again, if your house is heavily carpeted, this issue can be a pain). THREE: clean-up of the vacuum itself is another step you have to account for. because you use so little water, dirt can splash around the plastic tunneling where that spits the dirt into the water reservoir. it's not difficult to clean, but with the crevices, takes a little bit of time. It's necessary, if you don't want the scent of previous dirt to haunt you when you use the vacuum next. Also, when storing, paper-towel the reservoir and the plastic tunneling dry before you store it, or leave it out to dry before putting it back in. You don't want the scent of mildew either. I've read complaints about how flimsy the plastic is. It's an exaggeration. Compared to the Rainbow, where the plastic is so strong and rugged that it is seemingly childproof (I remember, my syblings and I abused the machine growing up and it still kept on going strong), the H20 vac fails to compare, BUT it's strong enough for frequent use, and the abuse from regular usage. beware of children though. it's not childproof strong! all together i feel it's a fair vacuum for the price. it's honestly a tenth of what the rainbow is, so compared to that, it is sufficiently a tenth of the price of the Rainbow. This will hold me over until i can afford to have a rainbow in my life again.

Bissell OptiClean Cyclonic Canister Vacuum, Bagless, 66T61 Review

(More customer reviews)This unit has so far proven that it is both quiet and not entirely effective. In the past I have both owned and have been very pleased with Bissell products. On this particularly occasion I do not find myself sitting in that corner of improvement.
On each of my area rugs this unit takes several passes to pick up the most mild of materials. I have three large rugs of varying depth and material to provide an excellent range of a testing base. On the hardwood floors it does more to collect debris in the head of the unit rather than actually pull objects into the deposit container. If transitioning from floor to carpet this results in the debris being deposited onto the rug. Several passes later it will eventually collect what the deposits it left behind.
On the positive outlook the unit itself is fairly quiet and the attachments are of good quality construction. While the vacuum is an affordable option I would advise against the purchase.

Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Dual-Cyclonic Upright Vacuum, 3920 Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased one of these fellas today after having just returned my Dyson. Yes, that's right, I RETURNED MY DYSON! To be honest, I am still scratching my head as to why so many people throw praise at the Dyson. I had one of their "Animal" vacuums for one day, and although it was a nice product... really, is it worth almost $500? I mean, I am talking about a LOT of money here, so why should you spend that much money on a vacuum cleaner?
The simple answer is that you don't have to. The Dyson Animal picked up just a small amount of debris from my fully-carpeted apartment when I tried it out. The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser was almost half-full after I used it earlier today, only 12 hours after having using the Dyson.
I'm not sure what to make of this, to be honest. The Bissell (which costs about 1/3 the price of the Dyson) seems to do the job much better. Although the unit is quite bulky, and requires some assembly (the instructions were a joke), I have much cleaner floors as a result. And my biggest peeve about the Dyson was that, after paying all that money for a product that was called "The Animal," I still had to pay an extra $69 for the pet hair attachment! Is it me, or is someone trying to rip me off here? (Edit: I have been told that one of the Dyson Animal vacuums comes equipped with the aforementioned attachment).
As for the Bissell, it comes with all of the attachments that you will ever need, and did a great job on my upholstery as well as my carpets. Although the hose isn't as long as the Dyson, I was able to clean everything that I needed to clean without any setbacks.
My conclusion is this - if you believe that a Mercedes Benz is the best car out there because of its price tag, then you will probably be better off with a Dyson. However, if you just want a vacuum cleaner that does a decent job regardless of how much it costs, then go with the Bissell.
Simply put, my Bissell Pet Hair Eraser vacuum cleaner does a better job than the Dyson Animal, plus I have an extra $300 in my pocket.
Now, does that seem like a no-brainer to you?-Update 04/04/2009-
People keep asking me how the vacuum is performing now, so I'm going to address this matter. I'm still happy with my purchase and stand by it. No, the Pet Hair Eraser is not perfect, which is why I gave it four stars instead of five. However, it does a great job of cleaning my carpets, still, and I have only had to replace the belt once because of my own mistake. Looking at the other reviews, it seems like people either love it or hate it. My advice, if you are unsure, would be to purchase one from a nearby store so that you can return it if you are not happy.

The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser finally passed away just recently. So, we managed to get two years out of it. Some of you will think that is good for a $150 vacuum cleaner, whereas others will have higher expectations. As for me, I think that we got more than our money's worth. It performed great until just recently, when it simply stopped working the way it used to. Let me make it clear that we vacuum a lot in our household - at least once a day - so this thing got put through its paces. We're happy with what we got out of the Bissell, and will be buying another here soon. Although, we may just go ahead and get the slightly cheaper Pet Eraser (model #4101) from Walmart this time.

(More customer reviews)Usually I won't buy a product on Amazon without seeing at least one customer review...but at $100 I thought I'd take a chance. I wanted a lightweight vacuum with good power, one that was bagless, able to pick up animal hair, and wouldn't cost me a fortune long-term with replacement filters. So far, this vacuum fits all those criteria.
PROS
- Easy to put together. It took me about 4 minutes once the pieces are out of the box. A Philips screwdriver is required to secure the handle. There's nothing complicated here.
- Long cord. Plus, there's a little cord clip up near the handle to secure the cord.
- Power. I was surprised to see how quickly this cleaned up and how much it got out of my carpet, even after my Roomba had taken a turn just before. Very good at getting fine cat hair out of a medium-pile carpet.
- Lightweight. You sacrifice a motor (i.e. it's not self-propelled), but the darn thing is so light it hardly matters. I had no trouble pushing this thing around; in fact, I found it easier to push without the motor than my bigger, heavier Bissell bagless vacuum (which weight about 10 pounds more but was self-propelled). It weighs about 15 pounds. Plus, the top of the canister serves as an additional handle for the entire vacuum, so you can pick it up in two different places.
- Easy to empty. The bottom of the canister is hinged. Push the button to unlock the canister from the vacuum, bring the canister to your garbage, and push the latch (easy to do) on the front of the canister. The darn thing just empties right out. (Just be sure you've got it over the garbage when you do!)
- Filters. The packaging says you never need to replace the HEPA filter (located at the top of the canister), and the canister's cone filter is apparently rinsable. I haven't had to deal with either yet.
CONS
One star off because of the little noises associated with operation. First, there was this weird chirping sound for about 5 minutes after using it the first time. It did, however, go away - looks like it was literally a squeaky wheel. And second, once you get something of weight in the canister, like a tiny piece of gravel, it whirls around and around and around...and you hear it whirl around and around...it's pretty loud. But overall, neither of these would keep me from purchasing again.

(More customer reviews)I bought the Navigator yesterday from Bed, Bath and Beyond. I really am impressed with the performance and results. I have been putting in a lot of research into finding a vacuum that met my families needs.
I own a Eureeka "The Boss" and have had it for over three years. It just doesn't pick up deep, ground in dirt. Plus it really is a pain to go to the store and pick-up bags and make sure your getting the correct one's. That was my case against getting an Oreck.
Well I brought the navigator home and I have been converted. I like many others vegged out on the infomercial. They make the vacuum sound like it's going to save the world from dust and dirt. They also focus on how they were able to copy the features of the Dyson for less money. I felt if they had to copy a vacuum you might as well get the original.
Well after having spent the last week vacuuming my carpet with my old Eureeka twice, then using a Hoover steam vac carpet cleaner, which actually pulled up junk my Eureeka didn't and it's not even a real vacuum. After the carpet had dried I went over my carpet again with my Eureeka again to make sure the carpets were clean enough for my 3 year old.
So now last night I get the navigator home and put it together ( which was extremely easy) and I carefully review the directions. I had never owned a bagless so I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to do anything that harmed the lifetime filters. Not much to it actually. Just wash the two sponge (forgot the official names) filters every three months, they give you spares while the originals are drying, and replace the thin sponge filter every twelve months. Easy enough.
Now for the vacuuming. I went over the same exact spots in our living room I had done with the steam vac and the Eureeka. I couldn't believe the amount of caked up dirt/dust clumps sucked into the Navigator dust bin. I was really disgusting. It was like that old insulation material that they used to use in attics. It was nasty. But that illustrated how powerfull this vacuum is. It really does get stuff the other vacuums don't. Dirt and dust you can't even see. I really mean this. I was blown away.
Now granted I had just spent about $160 on this vacuum so I wanted it to work. I am biased towards making it work. But the dust bin doesn't lie. That's another plus about bagless vacuums you get to actually see what's in your carpets. Not pretty but eye opening.
How this vacuum exceeded my expectations was the noise level. Now there is no vacuum that is whisper quiet. However compared to my Eureeka and the steam vac, and other vacuums I and my parents had owned in the past this Navigator was quieter then any other vacuum I have had experience with. I have never turned on a Dyson only played with manuevering it in the store. But I was able to vacuum after 10:00pm in a town home with neighbors on both sides.
Another great feature is how compact this vacuum is. Now it's not particullary light. You are not going to lift it with your pinky as you can with some vaccums(the Garry and Oreck). But I am able to haul it upstairs ( we have three levels so we are always going up and down stairs). Storing it in the closet is a breeze because it's so small. And as I said my wife and son and I live in a town house so there is limited space.
Now here is my only gripe. This is is not unique to the Navigator. Any bagless vacuum is an absolute terror when it comes to emptying what you've sucked up. Sure it's easy with the quick emptying dust bin's but unless you wrap a bag around the bin that dust is going to shoot back into the air. YOU MUST EMPTY ANY BAGLESS VACUUM OUTSIDE. That is just the only way you can insure not to contaminate the air inside your house with the same stuff your just sucked up. This is where bagged vacuums with sealing solutions like the Oreck, some hoovers, and the Garry have the advantage. But again you have to pay for bags the entire life of the vacuum and bag vacuums lose suction the more that you vacuum. Remember dirt and dust just doesn't automatically find the bottom of the bag. It takes the path of least resistance with most of the time is sticking to the top of the bag or near the opening which will clog the whole quickly which will impede the suction power. That is one of the reasons why I am able to pick up things with my navigator that I can't pick up with my Eureeka. If they could ever create a clear bag, no lose of suction vacuum I will be the first in line.
So to sum this up, I don't work for Shark and I don't get a bonus for referring this vacuum. I just love it's performance compared to my previous vacuums. I went with this over the Dyson because I just don't believe that I should have to spend over $300 - $500 on a vacuum. If this vacuum holds up over time then I will have save a considerable amount of money upfront and over time. It's just a winner all around. It has a 5 year warranty and above all that at Bed, Bath and Beyond there return policy is unlimited. As long as you have the reciept and original packaging you can bring a product back 3 months from now, 6 months from now, or 6 years from now. Plus I used those 20% coupons I always get in the mail from them and chopped off $40.
I really love this vacuum and so far recommend it. If you have any additional questions about it please feel free to email me at [...]. Of course I haven't used them yet since I just got the vacuum yesterday.

Bissell Versus Bare-Floor Vacuum with Brushless V-Shape Technology, 76T8 Review

(More customer reviews)Okay..let me start by saying that I have 2 (SHEDDING) dogs who have a doggie door to the backyard and are in and out all day long tracking dirt/leaves inside constantly. Let me also say that I have all hardwood floors throughout, and have been called OCD on the cleanliness of my home. Before purchasing the Bissell Versus, I owned 1 standard (HEAVY) upright vac (Dirt Devil), 2 cordless vacs (one being a Shark), and 2 handheld vacs.
Always on a mission to find the perfect vacuum cleaner, I got sucked (pun intended) right into the infomercial on the Bissell Versus. After reading online reviews (some great, some bad), I decided what the heck..I'll give it a shot. Here is what I found after using it last night for the first time:
1) Hard to find in-stores, but finally found at a local Target on sale for $59. (Yay!)
2) Easy to put together. REALLY easy.
3) Worried about the reviews saying it was hard to maneuver, I found it quite easy (I'm puny)! I didn't find it to be too "top-heavy" at all. WAY lighter than my normal upright vac, and the "V" head makes vacuuming around tables/chairs/furniture so much easier.
4) Vacuumed all of my dog-hair-tumbleweeds without any problem at all, regardless of how big they were, including some larger leaves that had fallen from my houseplants, and one (LARGE) dead bug that appeared sometime while I was out buying this vacuum. I was also very happy with how much dust it picked up! I personally didn't have a problem with the expelled air blowing around hair/debris..the vac sucked it right up before it got too far away.
5) The many reviews complaining about how short the cord is, had me worried I'd spend half my time unplugging/replugging. Although it IS shorter than my normal upright vac, it wasn't AT ALL as bad as some said.
6) Reviews also had me worried about it not getting hair against the floor's baseboard due to the "V" shape - but I didn't have any problems at all. I thought I'd need to use the Crevice Tool/Hose to get against the walls, but thankfully found I didn't even need it (well, just once to get behind the fridge).
7) I LOVE the fact that it is bagless..and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the fact that it doesn't have a roller underneath to get hair/yarn/fuzz wrapped around! I hated trying to cut/unravel that nastiness from around my upright's roller. The Versus just has a big hole that everything gets sucked up! The most interaction I had with the underside, was to pull the fur off of the little "squeegee" thingy after I was done vacuuming my whole house..all of 2 seconds.
8) The only CON I could find, was that I tried to use it to vacuum the dog hair off of a couple floor mats, but it just wasn't doing the job. I'll still have to use my HEAVY one for that, or one of my handhelds.
So, needless to say..I highly recommend the Bissell Versus. :)
