The long cord makes it useful for a variety of jobs, e.g., cleaning car interiors. For years I've used various handheld vacs because of their supposed convenience. With the 47R5 you don't have to worry about having only a few minutes of charge, and replacing the expensive rechargeable batteries periodically.
