We Purchased this as Taconey brags on their website about being an American vacuum manufacturer! Even the box has a 098 prefix on the barcode! (Barcodes that begin in 0 are supposed to be of American origin!)
We have 2 collies and the vacuum works great picking up dog hair. The brush-roll is made of metal and NEVER has dog hair wrapped around it. Our previous vacuum had a plastic brush-roll and always did. It has very good suction and is easy to use. The hose is stiff (typical), and I wish the cord was longer.
We purchased a canister as we have lots of stairs and more ceramic tile than carpet. The included hard surface floor tool works well on the tile floors, however the other included tools are quite small. The dusting tool is a joke as you have to snap the brushes onto another tool, but some of the pictures showed that. The self adjusting power head works well on both thick nap cut pile and berber carpets. I think an upright would work best on cut pile carpets though.
We compared this to Panasonic/Kenmore canisters before purchase, and were not impressed with the quality of those. I'm not sure this is better, but it does have the metal brushroll.

The way they routed the cord for the powerhead is frustrating. The cord runs along the hose and the hose goes into the top of the canister above the handle, the cord plugs into the canister below the handle. So when you go to use the handle the stupid cord is in the way! If they had put a 90 degree end on the cord you could at least route it so it isn't in the way. Typical Chinese!
It does the job, and for the money I guess it does exactly what I purchased it for. It's better than a lot of the junk they sell in the box stores. I really wanted to give it 4 stars because it does so well picking up pet hair, but it's made in China for a company that brags about making vacuums in the USA, so it's lucky to get 3!
Update,
After using this for a while, the hose is in a constant state of twist, the bag is small and fills up quickly, and the connection of the handle to the wand is frustrating.
The cord connects seperate from the handle and doesn't fit very tightly, nor does the handle connection to the wand seem very secure. I'm afraid it will just loosen over time.
It has very good suction and the metal brushroll is the most positive thing about this vacuum. It never has pet hair twisted around it.
Overall though.
I'm beginning to think this thing is just another Chinese piece of crap!
