Hoover SteamVac Carpet Cleaner with Power Brush and Tools, FH50035 Review

Hoover SteamVac Carpet Cleaner with Power Brush and Tools, FH50035

For the past 8-9 years I have been renting a RugDoctor carpet cleaner from Home Depot two to three times a year. Our carpets were brand new when we bought our house 20 years ago which was three kids and two dogs ago. I would love to rip and replace our carpets but not spending that kind of money right now.
My situation is unique in that I did not have to pay anything for my Hoover Quick & Light because our bank Visa had an awards program. The awards website just said Hoover Steam Vac and I saw several good reviews online. Once we actually received the unit I did a new search for reviews of the Quick & Light and was dissapointed that the majority were not good. I actually took it down to my local Hoover store to see if I could trade up for something better. No go.
So I figured I was stuck with another crappy device that would underperform and waste time. I am happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised when I first used the Hoover. It did just as good as job as the RugDoctor. Matter of fact I think that the power brushes do a much better job than the RugDoctors I was renting. The good news is that it is light and takes a small amount of water to operate. Which is good when your pet gets sick or you just want to do one room over the weekend. The bad news is that it takes a small amount of water to operate which also means there is a lot of stopping, adding more clean water and dumping the dirty water.
I think it is a very good unit for someone that wants to able to clean up after a pet or just stay on top of one room at a time. It is light and easy enough to use that my parents (in their 80's) could use it. All in all a good unit and I would say good value for the $129 price range.

this product is ok, its spits allot (allot!) of water. it does make clothes look better (but soaks the heck out of them) and does make sofa smells fresher, and wetter. i had higher expectations. i maybe would try another version as this one does not become very hot. maybe it is just mine that is broken. i like the funnel it came with. but that is about it.

Singer ESP-2 Electronic Steam Press Review

Singer ESP-2 Electronic Steam Press
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Worth every penny! DH and I both wear business professional to work each day. At $3.25 per pair of pants, my dry cleaning bill was at least $45 - $50 a week doing both pants and shirts. It was getting ridiculous! So I splurged for this Singer steam press and it has worked out perfectly. I only do the pants (shirts are $1.25 each and it's worth it to me to drop those at the cleaners bc they are a pain and I simply don't have the time).
I near-dry the pants and then let them hang overnight. Then I steam press them, half a leg at a time, from the hem to the highest point the presser can go, only doing from the center seam out to the crease. So each pant gets 4 presses. I don't bother with the tops of the pants or the pleats. They look fine coming straight from the dryer. But if they need it, I'll use a traditional iron for that. It took some practice, but I've got it down to less than 1 minute per pair without rushing. They come out perfect and I'm saving a ton of money. We wear 10 pairs of pants each week. So each week I'm saving over $32.00 on my cleaning bill. In about 2 months, I was already ahead.
My only beef was that the steamer would leave little wet spots on the pants (that dried and no problem). But I discovered that was operator-error. I was steaming for 2-3 seconds and you really only need 1 second. And don't try to use this for shirts. You'll spend more time fixing the little creases than if you just used a regular iron. But for my purposes, this thing is a dream!

Give garments that "fresh from the cleaners" finish with this electronic steam press. Almost 14 times larger than a conventional iron, the unit's 24-by-9-inch pressing area reduces pressing time by as much as 50 percent, delivering a professional-looking press to large fabric surfaces such as table linens and draperies. Using just fingertip force to lower the handle, the appliance exerts 100 pounds of pressure for easily removing stubborn wrinkles or pressing several layers at a time. Choose between no steam or electronically pumped variable steam. With no steam, the unit can operate as a dry press when working with delicate fabrics; its electronically pumped variable steam delivers a true burst of steam from steam openings that cover the entire pressing area, ensuring the total area receives the benefits of steam.
"Power" and "temperature-ready" indicators take the guess work out of knowing the press temperature. Select from nylon, silk, wool, cotton, or linen settings--the press will remain at a consistent temperature to protect fabrics. If the handle gets left in the down position, an alarm will sound after 10 seconds as a reminder to lift the handle to ensure that fabrics are not exposed to the heating plate too long. For peace of mind, the unit's automatic shut-off turns off the power if its handle remains in the up or down position for too long. Ample space at the back of the pressing board comes in handy for holding large items as they are being pressed. The portable press comes with a lockable handle for storing in a vertical position, and it weighs only 22 pounds for simple transport. Accessories include a measuring cup, spray bottle, pressing cushion, washable pad cover, and an instruction book. The electronic steam press measures approximately 13 by 24 by 12 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Krups XP9000 Super-Automatic Espresso Machine and Coffee Center, Charcoal Review

Krups XP9000 Super-Automatic Espresso Machine and Coffee Center, Charcoal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just got my machine today and decided to stay up to write this review since I drank so many cups of espresso. I got this machine when Amazon had it on their Lightning Deals and decided to take a chance since it was such a good deal. The unit arrived in perfect condition and well packaged. It looks like the packaging is from Krups. All Amazon had to do was slap a label on it and ship it. The start up guide is easy to follow. The only problem I had was it kept asking me to fill the bean containter. It was already full. I powered cycle the unit and then it worked. I love the way the frother works. You just add milk to the cup, lower the steam nozzle and it takes care of the rest. No need to move the cup. Cleaning is easy. You can use pre-ground coffee with by-pass shaft. If you want to make a cup of decaf, you can do that without having to empty the bean container. The grinding mechanism is quieter than most units I have tried before. The only thing that I am wondering about is the amount of fluid in the drip tray after I brew a cup. I'm not sure if that is normal.
Pros
----
* Easy to use
* Excellent coffee and espresso
* Heats up fast
* Ability to specify how much of espresso or cup of coffee i.e. 2 oz
* Frother design - no need to move the cup or use a separate milk container
* Large bean and water containers
* A way to by-pass the beans in the container and use something else
* A nice slot in the back for sliding in the manual for storage
* It is quiet relative to other super auto machines
* Sturdy and well made (Made in Switzerland, 36 lbs)
Cons
----
* It is big! To open the lids for the water and beans, I have to slide
the unit out from under my cabinets. I put felt feet on the unit
so it can slide out easily for cleaning under and for adding beans/water.
* There is no way to take up the extra length of the power cord. My unit
sits right in front of a power plug so I have a lot of extra cord that is
hard to hide. I'll add two stick-on hooks and wind the cord around them.
* The power plug takes up another 3" of counter space. They should have
made it a flat right angle plug.
* The manual needs more details. It didn't cover all the features and
are light on some descriptions. Perhaps a link to a website for more
information.

Enjoy cafe-quality coffee drinks right at home with this super-automatic coffee and espresso center. It automatically grinds, tamps, brews, and disposes of spent grounds for exceptionally convenient operation. The unit features automatic controls and an oversized digital display, as well as a central steam nozzle for perfect cappuccino and lattes at the push of a button, without having to move the cup and without a separate milk container. A lever on the top of the machine allows for bringing the steam nozzle down and back up, making it easy to adjust the height of the coffee dispenser. The unit also provides hot water for tea and hot chocolate. Programming capabilities include espresso/strong espresso, coffee/strong coffee, cappuccino/latte, and steam/hot water. An easily accessible side panel can be used for customized programming, including coffee strength, cup size, water temperature, and steam time.
The machine's 15-bar compact monoblock high-pressure pump leads cold water into the Thermoblock System where it instantaneously warms to the optimal temperature of 198 degrees F. In addition, the unit's integrated conical-burr grinder holds up to 28 ounces of whole beans and offers four fineness settings. Other highlights include a heating element with two thermostats, a bypass for pre-ground coffee, a removable brewing unit, an empty bean sensor, a removable 88-ounce water tank, a cup-warming plate, and an integrated drip tray with automatic sensor to indicate when the water tray needs to be emptied. Housed in attractive stainless steel, the 1450-watt espresso machine measures 18-3/4 by 11-1/2 by 14-3/4 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Sanitaire by Electcrolux S782AT Lightweight Vacuum Cleaner (Sanitaire 782, Sanitaire S 782 AT) Review

Sanitaire by Electcrolux S782AT Lightweight Vacuum Cleaner (Sanitaire 782, Sanitaire S 782 AT)
Average Reviews:

Sure I expected a new vacuum to clean my carpet better, but what I didn't expect was for my rug to look five years younger afterwards! My matted carpet was in pretty bad shape and I had little hope of it lasting much longer until I couldn't stand looking at it anymore. But after a good cleaning with this Sanitaire S782 I was very happy to see that my rug seemed to have new life in it and frankly looked like the rug was 5 years younger. I am simply amazed.
Dual motors allow for stopping the direct drive brush assembly going over hardwood floors while still providing lots of suction power which is also good for vacuuming the edges of scatter rugs so they don't get sucked up into the roller. And if something does get caught in the roller the motor shuts off instantly and automatically and you just have to hit the reset button after clearing.
This machine uses bags that are inexpensive and is rated at lightweight commercial use. It's fairly light at 14 pounds, and I like the folding handle making it easy to store away. The only con seems to be the high pitched motor noise which is annoying but I am already getting used to it.
After feeling like I was in a maze of new vacuum options I feel I made a really good choice without spending a fortune.

Bissell SpotBot Pet Hands-Free Compact Deep Cleaner, Blue Illusion, 1200A Review

Bissell SpotBot Pet Hands-Free Compact Deep Cleaner, Blue Illusion, 1200A
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The other night my dog got into the cat's litter box (I use Fresh Step crystals - those crystals don't sit well in a dogs stomach) and she must have had a real fancy feast. I awoke to her vomiting all over my freshly dry cleaned comforter, and when I got up saw piles of diarrhea and more vomit in two bedrooms and two bathrooms. I'm thinking to myself, "This girl planned this," because just three days ago I had my carpeting professionally cleaned.
I didn't have time to do anything more than wipe up as much of the diarrhea and vomit as I could (and to tend to Joon's stomach, of course), as I was running late for an appointment. While I was out, I remembered seeing a commercial for this product, so on the way home, I picked it up.
When I had finished collecting any of the refuse that had dried while I was out, I approached this with skepticism. After all, it is a little difficult to believe that all you have to do is set the unit down over the stain, press a button, and then walk away.
But that's all you have to do. I was amazed at the simplicity of the design, and how easy it is to disconnect the collection and solution tanks. On the solution tank, Bissell has two sets of markings: one for use with their OxyGen2 product (which I haven't used yet), water, and formula; and another for water and formula alone. Those markings are very clear, and are a welcome design. There are three buttons to press: one for regular surface stains; another for set-in stains, and another to allow for manual use with the hose. When I pressed the surface stain button, I watched for a while as the unit switched between spray, suction, and brush functions. I have to say that watching the product work through the "Hands Free Cleaning Window" was pretty, er, cool. (Yeah, so I'm a dork. )
I walked away for a moment, and then heard the unit beep, indicating that it was done. I'm hearing impaired, and have a difficult time with high tones. I wasn't expecting to hear this, but I did - as clear as a bell - and I was at the opposite end of the apartment. I approached the unit with skepticism, but when I lifted it off the spot, the stains were gone. I proceeded to set the unit down on all of the spots throughout the apartment, coming back to it every time it beeped. It cleaned every spot.
This was by far the most pleasant, and the least physically exhausting experience I've ever had with a so-called steam or deep cleaner - and that "least physically exhausting" part is a big one for me.
Still skeptical, though, I thought to myself: Just see when it dries; the stains won't really be gone. This morning, however, every single spot had dried, and there wasn't an issue with the carpet feeling stiff due to soapiness.
As an aside, and as a comment to another review: This unit wasn't built or designed to clean an ENTIRE area rug, or, of course, anything larger. That's the purvey of large steam cleaners. It's called "SpotBot" for a reason. And it executes perfectly.
EDIT 8/22/07: The same dog got into something else, and left a mess of vomit and diarrhea all over the apartment. Again. (No, I'm not trying to poison my dogs, and this doesn't happen often.) Some of the diarrhea had occurred in the night, and it was stiff and wouldn't rub out using the hand brush. But using the hands-free option got the job done.
I feel very badly for my dog, of course, but at the same time am thankful to have had this unit. It made a world of difference. Every pet owner should have one.
ALSO, 2 TIPS for those who don't think the hands-free option retrieves enough water during its cycle:
1) After using the hands-free, detach the manual hose and use that suction, or;
2) Empty the solution tank, and run the hands-free option again. No water/formula will eject, so you'll have a couple of minutes of "pure" suction.
EDIT 8/24: For those interested, my dog is now fine. :-)

Haan GS30 Professional Garment Steamer with Attachments Review

Haan GS30 Professional Garment Steamer with Attachments
Average Reviews:

Easy set up. Very functional. Great design. Convenient. Steam comes out quick once plugged in and turned on. Only problem is the action. It took me several minutes---ten or so minutes--to steam a cotton/polyester blend skirt. It still did not completely take away the wrinkles. Very disappointed. However, the steam works great with 100% cotton material. Everything is wonderful except for its effectiveness on fabrics with blends.
